Social Concerns Commission
The mission of the Holy Family Social Ministry and Human Concerns Commission is to make parishioners aware of Catholic Social Teaching. The Commission provides parishioners an opportunity to help those in our community who are in need through the Monthly Food and Essential Collections and the Christmas Giving Tree.
Statement on Archdiocese of Seattle on Catholic Social Teaching
Striving for a Culture of Life in a Just World at Peace
The Church’s teaching on justice and life issues is “earthshaking … it pertains to the essence of being Catholic.” When we understand Catholic social teaching as an integrated whole, and not a specialty area, we are faithful to the Gospel. If we don’t do that, we compromise the credibility of the Gospel itself.”

Catholic Social Teaching
Seven Themes of Catholic Social Teaching
1. Life and Dignity of the Human Person: Catholics professes that every person is valued, that humans are of higher importance than material objects, and that we must measure each action on whether it endangers or improves the life and dignity of the human person.
2. Call to Family, Community, and Participation: How society is organized affects an individual's ability to grow in community. We must support and strengthen marriage and family. We all have both the right and duty to participate in our society for a common good for all.
3. Rights and Responsibilities: Each person has a fundamental right to life, as well as to what is required for human decency.
4. Option for the Poor and Vulnerable: We are called to put the needs of the poor and vulnerable first.
5. The Dignity of Work and the Rights of Workers: Since work is a way for people to continue to participate in the creation God has given us we must respect the rights of workers including decent/fair wages, the organization and joining of union, and to private property among other things.
6. Solidarity: We are one human family regardless of our differences and we are called to love our neighbors. We must promote peace in the world and work for justice.
7. Care for God's Creation: We are called to care for all of God's creation -the people and the planet.
